Concentrated juice is a variety of juice that is often diluted with water. These juices can also be mixed with other drinks to give it a sweeter taste. Concentrated juices come in 1 litre, 3 litre or 5 litres options. There are various flavours available to tantalise all taste buds. Such flavours could include orange, lemon and many others.

Drinks that come in sachets are popular amongst children. Drink-o-Pop, for example, makes flavoured drinks that can be mixed with water. Children may take this drink to school as part of the lunch box. The sachet contents can be mixed with chilled water in the morning before your child goes to school. Choose a reusable drinks bottle that your child will love and fill it with the mixed cool drink. It is a great way for parents to save space in their kitchen cupboards. It is also a good way to minimise the use of drinks bottles that are usually discarded after one use. The individual sachets make one glass of cool drink. After school, fill a glass with cold milk and mix in about 3 to 4 teaspoons of chocolate powder. Give the milk a good stir to dissolve all of the cocoa granules. For an added treat, you could add a spoon or two of ice cream to create a chocolate milkshake. Children love this variation of the chocolate milk drink. Nestle Cocoa and Milo are both available in resealable containers that can be bought in bulk packs of 6 containers.

These are summer drinks that will be in demand during the following months so be sure to stock up at your local wholesaler.

2 Steps to Ease Fears & Speed Metabolic Rate

Green Energy Drinks - Worried About a Slow Metabolism? 2 Steps to Ease Fears & Speed Metabolic Rate

We all want a fast metabolism. A fast metabolism means that our bodies are efficiently converting food into energy and burning fat as fuel instead of storing it for a rainy day. In other words, with a good metabolism, we're energetic, active, healthy, alert and lean, and with a slow metabolism, we're hungry, sluggish, foggy-headed, unhealthy and fat. No brainer, right? Especially when a slow metabolism can keep your body from getting the nutrients it needs, eventually leading to breakdown.

2 Steps to Ease Fears & Speed Metabolic Rate

A fast metabolism is tied to a simple healthy diet with the right ratio of lean protein (like fish or whey protein), unprocessed carbohydrates (like leafy greens or green drink powder) and healthy fats (like nuts or flax oil).  It's not tied to processed quick-fixes like diet pills, caffeinated drinks or sugary beverages that make you feel "speedy" and then make you crash. No, these ups and downs throw off your blood sugar and slow your metabolism even more! Plus, they only further add to environmental toxins building up in your body and slowing your metabolism.

The good news is that there are easy, all-natural ways to speed your metabolism that last all day. And whey you feel energetic on a steady basis, you're more active and less hungry causing a snowball effect that benefits your overall well-being and body tone in the long-term.

One of our favorite energy-boosting metabolism speeders is green energy powder. The higher energy levels it gives you keeps you moving and burning more fat and leaves you with that fast metabolism snowball effect. Here's how healthy energy drinks give you more energy naturally:

o  They have all-natural green tea, a natural stimulant.

o They're full of antioxidants that keep cells healthy, giving you plenty of energy to use on whatever you want.

o They contain probiotics and digestive enzymes that help digestion, keeping the body cleaner, more efficient and more energized.

o They have lots of chlorophyll that alkalizes and cleans the blood. This gives you more red blood cells to carry oxygen in and metabolic waste out.

o They're all-alkaline and help keep your body in ideal alkaline PH state.

So how can you speed up your metabolism naturally to stay energized and lean? Follow This Breakfast Shake 2-Step Plan!

#1. Get the optimum amount of protein, carbs and fats at every meal and snack. What's the optimum amount? A fist-size portion of unprocessed carbohydrates, a thumb-size portion of healthy fats, and a fist-size portion of lean protein.  Your body needs all three to :

o Turn carbs into glucose to fuel your body and brain
o Stabilize blood sugar
o Provide fiber to curb hunger
o Burn body fat

#2. Have a green energy drink for breakfast and plan ahead by having the ingredients on hand. This breakfast drink is easy to prepare, tastes delicious and has the perfect nutritional balance that we just talked about in step #1.

Blend the following to desired smoothness:  liquid (water, milk); green drink powder; pure protein powder; good fat (omega oil);  fresh fruit; ice; optional essences and spices (ginger, nutmeg, cinnamon, mint, vanilla ).

Ready to be energized all day long thanks to a healthy metabolism? Start by shopping for the ingredients for your breakfast smoothies...

Is Raw Milk Safe? Learn When it is Okay to Drink Unprocessed Milk

Is Raw Milk Safe? Learn When it is Okay to Drink Unprocessed Milk

Have you read the articles lately about real milk and how healthy it is for you? Maybe you've heard conversations here and there and have been asking yourself, "Is raw milk safe to drink?" It can be confusing when you hear commercials on TV telling you how healthy milk from the grocery store is. But is it really? And just how can you know it is really okay to drink unpasteurized real fresh milk straight from the cow?

Is Raw Milk Safe? Learn When it is Okay to Drink Unprocessed Milk

Well let me clarify one thing here. I don't generally drink the milk "straight from the cow" per se. I do bring it into the house, strain it through a filter, pour it into glass jars, and then quickly stash it in the freezer for a couple of hours to quickly bring the temperature down. The faster you can cool your milk the longer it will stay fresh. Anyway, you could technically drink it right out of the cow but that is not to my liking. Some people do though.

But I digress.

You simply want to be informed about how to know when and why this is safe. Okay, well there are a few things to look out for. First, you want to purchase your milk from someone who has a healthy cow (or cows). This will most likely be a small independent farmer. They will generally not mind at all if you tour their farm, visit the cows, and even watch them milk. Be sure to check that they milk under sanitary conditions and, as I mentioned, have some way to get the milk pretty cold pretty fast after milking.

If everything seems good so far, the next thing to ask is what they feed their cows. Best case scenario is totally grass fed or perhaps a small amount of grain. If they say they feed a mostly grain-based diet you should avoid buying milk from them. But you will not normally find this to be the case except at very large dairies simply because that is the most cost-effective way to do things. They want to push their cows to produce the most milk possible, and they can do that by feeding lots and lots of grain. So avoid this type of farm.

The raw milk will be perfectly healthy and safe for you to drink as long as you follow this criteria. Of course the best way to know this is to buy your own cow and commence to milking! But as long as you do your due diligence, you will be able to find some safe, healthy, and delicious fresh milk.

Healthy Fruit Drink

Healthy Fruit Drink

Fruit makes up a very critical component of a human beings diet. This is because it is jam-packed with nutrients and minerals that are essential for health and vitality. Fruits contain antioxidants that are essential in fighting free radicals that damage cells, cause premature aging and diseases like cancer, cardiovascular disease and high blood pressure.

Healthy Fruit Drink

Fruits also contain essential vitamins and minerals that may not be found in other food groups or from other sources. For instance, fruits contain Vitamin C (that prevents scurvy), Vitamin A (that is good for eyesight and prevents macular degeneration), potassium, folate and other minerals.

So, a healthy fruit drink is an excellent way of ensuring that you get the daily recommended amount of nutrients and minerals. This is particularly so for children who may not take time for eating the fruit itself. Having them drink a fruit drink is an easy way of getting them the nutrition that they need for their bodies to grow strong.

A major advantage of a healthy fruit drink is that they do not contain near as many calories as fruit drinks typically contain. They also will have no fat, though they have a little sugar that provides energy. Fruit also contain enzymes that aid in digestion so that the pancreas is not overworked.

There are numerous healthy fruit drinks that are easy to make and very delicious. The best fruit drinks can be categorized into fruit smoothies and fruit juices. Fruit smoothies are made of blended fruit that may be fresh or frozen (or both), yoghurt, milk or water, ice cubes and sometimes ice cream. Juice on the other hand is made by extracting the liquid from a fruit. Therefore, a fruit smoothie and a fruit juice are different because a smoothie is made using the whole fruit (even the skin if it is edible), but when juice is made, the fruit pulp is usually gotten rid off.

Between the two kinds of healthy fruit drinks, the general consensus is that the fruit smoothie is more nutritious than the fruit juice. By using the whole fruit, the smoothie contains the fiber and pulp that are necessary for healthy digestion. The fiber also ensures that the sugar found in the fruit is slowly released so that there are no sudden spikes in blood sugar levels which can cause diabetes.

Smoothies are also more versatile than fruit juices when it comes to the number of ingredients that can be added to them. You can add yogurt, spinach, protein powder and any other ingredient you choose. This is because the ingredients of your healthy fruit drink are blended together so that even the solid ingredients are well integrated into the mixture.

It is best to make your healthy fruit drink at home as you can control the ingredients. However, you can purchase them from health food stores and supermarkets. If you do buy them instead of making them yourself be sure and always pay attention to the label of the fruit drinks to know all the ingredients. You should choose a drink that has no additives and is not made from concentrate.

The best thing of course about a healthy fruit drink is that it taste so great. How many foods do you find in life that have a delicious taste but are still good for you?

Good Food Good Health - For A Healthy Heart Drink Milk

Good Food Good Health - For A Healthy Heart Drink Milk

For a healthy heart drinking a pint of milk a day can improve your hearts healthiness.

Good Food Good Health - For A Healthy Heart Drink Milk

This really is good news for all of us and especially for my family, and myself as I have always loved dairy products and have never skimped on them.

I have only ever eaten and used butter mainly because there are generally no additives apart from salt, where as in many margarine or butter substitutes I do not actually know some of the listed additives and also the fact that I have never managed to find one that I liked the taste of.

For quite a while now dairy products have been labelled as bad for our health, but new studies by researchers show and claim the complete opposite. They say that dairy products actually help to protect our bodies against a wide variety of serious health conditions including heart disease, type 2 diabetes and strokes.

The study found that by having a regular consumption of dairy products, and this does not matter whether it is cheese, yoghurts or any type of milk, actually halves the chances of developing metabolic syndrome, which in the UK affects up to a quarter of the population.

Metabolic syndrome is also known as and called insulin resistance, which affects the body's metabolism by increasing cholesterol, body fat, blood glucose levels and blood pressure.

People that suffer with this condition have almost double the risk of coronary artery disease and have four times more chance of diabetes than those with out metabolic syndrome. Also more alarming is that these people are fifty per cent more likely to die earlier; a twenty-five year study has shown.

During the past twenty-five years milk consumption has plummeted, thought to be about concerns of the effect of the high saturated fat content may have on the heart and general health.

Growing evidence suggests this is false, as reviews worldwide on dairy products and vascular disease, show there are benefits also includes rates of heart disease and strokes.

The evidence has shown that there is a very powerful effect that totally goes against today's public perception that milk and dairy products are bad for your heart.

There has been over 300 publications from this study and they all point in the same direction, and the evidence shows that the effect is the same for both men and women.

On the study it was found that those who ate and drank dairy products regularly were far less likely to have the syndrome than those who drank and ate little or none.

By drinking a pint of milk a day they were also 62 per cent less likely to have the syndrome, and if they ate other dairy foods regularly 56 per cent less likely.

Researchers have also found that milk is more effective than anything else including water and expensive special formula sports drinks, for replacing fluid and salts that are lost through sweat.

So after any type of exertion such as sports, keep fit and manual labour, a glass of milk is the best for re-hydration. Tests show that milk keeps the body re-hydrated for at least four times longer than water or powerade - Cola's sports drink.

Milk is naturally rich in potassium, sodium and other vital salts that the body loses in vast quantities through sweating.

The combination of the protein, sugar and fat found in milk is the reason that it is removed much slower from the body than other drinks.

Milk really is an excellent drink and is so versatile, I know many people do not actually like milk but you can always make it into custard, rice pudding or semolina etc: to get your daily intake.

Our youngest daughter was always against drinking a glass of milk, and still is today, but she actually consumes more milk than the rest of the family.

She absolutely adores cereals, eating up to four bowls a day and of course this is with milk, summer or winter. She also loves chocolate milk shake and fruit smoothies with a blob of ice cream, but the smoothies are often left for me to prepare, as she does not like clearing up the blender afterwards - teenagers!

It is a shame that schools do not give out the daily milk drink that as a youngster was a great part of the school day. I believe if this was still the case in primary schools, more children would be happy to drink milk and less likely to go for the fizzy drinks that are available.

I hope you find this interesting, and now not so worried about eating dairy products. Think of all the great sauces you can make to enhance your culinary skills and know they are actually good for you. My favourite has always been cheese sauce, but I am equally partial to white sauce with fish or over broad beans.

Cheese on toast is a staple part of our daughter's diet, so much so that cheese is one of the first things that runs out in our kitchen, and now they laugh and say they can eat even more now! Pity they do not know where Sainsbury's is.

Remember to eat good food for good health

Healthy Energy Drinks - An Oxymoron? - Share healthy17

Healthy Energy Drinks - An Oxymoron?

What are healthy energy drinks? Do they truly exist -- or is this just more marketing hype? Did someone in the advertising department just slap the word "healthy" on the can and hope no-one inspects the ingredients? In some cases they did, but not always.

Healthy Energy Drinks - An Oxymoron?

First, let's examine some science on what is healthy or unhealthy about any beverage. That would be a good starting point, wouldn't it?

What is an energy drink, in essence -- and what would qualify one to be called "healthy"?

Energy drinks are essentially a blend consisting of one or more stimulants, a flavoring, usually some added sugar for palatability, and herbs/amino acids/vitamins to buffer any nervousness caused by the stimulant and to facilitate the creation of energy naturally.

(This is the ideal of what energy drinks can be, but in practice some manufacturers cut many corners. It is wise to remember, "Let the buyer beware!")

Tea, coffee, and some herbal forms of stimulants like guarana, coca, cacao, yerba mate, khat, ephedra, and kola nut are widely used worldwide. Tea and coffee are the most familiar and have been found to have some beneficial health properties, even though they are to some degree habit-forming.

Most parents would not be too alarmed by their children drinking an occasional coffee, cola, or cup of tea -- Agreed?

The unfamiliar ingredients, when scrutinized on a can label, are usually the source of much public mistrust of energy drinks. Sometimes this mistrust is warranted and sometimes it is not -- it depends on what the ingredient is and its purpose.

For instance, ephedra, which is rarely used in energy drinks, has caused some problems, such as irregular heartbeat, heart attack, stroke, and even death in a few instances. These are not symptoms that build a happy, growing customer base, as you can imagine!

Taurine, on the other hand acts as a modulator, that is a "governor" on the energy level. It is also an antioxidant, which helps to neutralize free radicals which are produced by the body in its day-to-day processes. It has been found safe enough and valuable enough to be used in baby formula, so there is no cause to fear taurine. It has a purpose here. (See Wikipedia for the many benefits of taurine.)

Legitimate cause for concern arises around the quantities of sugar and caffeine many of these energy drinks contain.

High levels of caffeine and other stimulants are reason for concern among many parents and health professionals, but equal attention should be paid to the huge doses of various types of sugars in energy drinks.

The average American consumes about a half-pound of sugar every day! A large portion of this comes from soft drinks, including energy drinks and coffee drinks. At nearly two ounces of sugar in one tall can of the common brands of energy drink, it doesn't take too long to get our half pound of sugar.

High sugar consumption often leads to weight gain, which leads to diabetes, Type 2. Diabetes is on the increase in America and worldwide and it is a serious, eventually fatal medical problem.

Dr. Joseph Mercola recently listed 76 different medical problems caused by our infatuation with sugar. The high sugar levels in most energy drinks disqualifies them from being healthy energy drinks.

Ironically, casual surveys I have taken in so-called health food stores reveal energy drinks in their coolers containing 18-29 grams of sugars. Sugar is sugar, whether it is organic cane sugar or not. One exception to this is the use of agave syrup sweeteners, which contain more fructose which poses a special health threat.

Another cause for concern is the way that most manufacturers choose to sweeten their drinks without using sugar. Artificial sweeteners actually still lead to weight gain, plus some of them have been found to cause structural damage to the brain and nervous system. Aspartame is the worst on this account, causing tumors in research animals and infertility in subsequent generations of offspring when the pregnant mothers were fed aspartame, comparable to what humans might receive.

Potential for long-term nervous system damage is revealed in the investigations of aspartame by Dr. Russell Blaylock and others. Sucralose is another artificial sweetener that provides multiple reasons for avoiding it.

Exaggerated caffeine content is usually less likely when these beverages are sold as "healthy energy drinks". It should be noted that brands that use guarana and green tea extracts as stimulants avoid the over-stimulating potential of caffeine.

The combination of caffeine, delicious sweet flavors, and inexperienced young consumers of these drinks are legitimate causes for worry by parents. When alcohol is added into the mixture -- or some combination of other drugs -- then it becomes impossible to predict what might occur.

But, to be fair, this is not the fault of the energy drink itself, but is evidence of a lack of education on how to use these beverages responsibly.

When one knows where the dangers lie and is able to find the rare beverages that qualify as healthy energy drinks, there is nothing to fear -- and a lot to be gained -- from these drinks.

Of course, there is the understandable tendency of parents to throw up their hands and simply forbid their kids from drinking any of these strange potions. This would be unwise because the young person is probably going to drink energy drinks, anyway, and become alienated from their parent in the process.

Likewise many older adults who are not at much risk for all-night partying, could enjoy healthy energy drinks, if they were able to recognize one.

I hope that this article may serve as a guide to de-mystifying the puzzling topic of healthy energy drinks. I have found great satisfaction in their use as a healthier alternative to coffee.

Drinking Too Much Milk And Prostate Cancer

Drinking Too Much Milk And Prostate Cancer

We've all heard that milk "does a body good" but there is an argument that drinking too much milk might not do a body some harm instead. Research finds that elderly Icelandic men who said they recall drinking large quantities of milk during their teenage year are 3 times more likely to receive a diagnosis of advanced prostate cancer compared to more moderate teen milk drinkers. This makes experts wonder if the years of puberty, a time when the prostate matures, may also be a period of increased vulnerability as well.

Drinking Too Much Milk And Prostate Cancer

So far the research into prostate cancer and intake of milk during the teen years have brought mixed results. One found milk drinkers were offered some protection against the disease, whereas the other study saw no relationship at all between milk drinking as a teen and prostate cancer. Both projects were small and couldn't tell the difference between early and advanced stage tumors.

Yet Iceland offers a unique and perfect natural laboratory. The nation had minimum infrastructure during the beginning of the last century, so those in the central regions lived off the land, including drinking lots of milk produced by farm animals. This drink was uncommon in the seaside villages.

For this research, the team used data on over 2000 men born between the years of 1907 and 1937 who had initially partaken in a study that got going during the 1960s.

During the beginning of the 2000's, the subjects had provided answers to questions on what they ate during their early and middle life for another project. Among the 463 subjects who remembered having milk infrequently in their teens, just 1% had advanced prostate cancer, or had died from the disease in the 25 years of follow up. The number was 3% among the 1800 men who drank milk every day during their adolescence.

The difference couldn't be explained away by how often the subjects went to the doctor, their education levels or what they ate. How much milk the men drank did not have a connection to early stage tumors. And intake during the midlife years (most studies focus on these years) also didn't appear to have an impact.

The team feels their data is strong, and that the findings point out that adolescence is a sensitive period for developing prostate cancer. You can't make such a claim based on just one study, so more work is called for to confirm these findings, and explore the mechanism behind the association.

We know that humans are the only animals in nature who drink milk after being weaned. We are also alone in drinking the milk of another animal for most of our lives.

No one is suggesting that teen boys limit their consumption of milk during this time. Despite the controversy over drinking too much milk and its benefits, no one should worry about drinking it as it brings lots of important nutrients to the body - an 8 ounce serving puts you well on your way to getting the recommended amount of calcium, riboflavin, high quality protein and other valuable nutrients. Giving your body lots of good, natural nutrients as you grow is a smart step toward staying healthy as an adult.

Artificial Sweeteners

Artificial Sweeteners

The health benefits of artificial sweeteners are inconclusive, with research showing mixed findings. Diet soda may not be a healthy substitute for sugary soda.

For adults trying to wean themselves from sugary soda, diet soda is a possible short-term substitute, best used in small amounts over a short period of time.
For children, the long-term effects of consuming artificially-sweetened beverages are unknown, so it’s best for kids to avoid them.

There is conflicting research surrounding the health benefits of artificially sweetened drinks. Long-term studies show that regular consumption of artificially sweetened beverages reduces the intake of calories and promotes weight loss or maintenance, but other research shows no effect, and some studies even show weight gain. (55)

A 2013 study showed that both sugar-sweetened beverages and artificially sweetened beverages were linked with an increased risk of developing Type 2 Diabetes, however, more research is needed to prove a causal link. (58)

 Artificial Sweeteners
One study of 3,682 individuals examined the long-term relationship between consuming artificially sweetened drinks and weight. The participants were followed for 7-8 years and their weights were monitored. After adjusting for common factors that contribute to weight gain such as dieting, exercising change, or diabetes status, the study showed that those who drank artificially sweetened drinks had a 47% higher increase in BMI than those who did not.

One concern about artificial sweeteners is that they affect the body’s ability to gauge how many calories are being consumed. Some studies show that sugar and artificial sweeteners affect the brain in different ways.

The human brain responds to sweetness with signals to eat more. By providing a sweet taste without any calories, however, artificial sweeteners cause us to crave more sweet foods and drinks, which can add up to excess calories.

At the University of California-San Diego, researchers performed functional MRI scans as volunteers took small sips of water sweetened with sugar or sucralose. Sugar activated regions of the brain involved in food reward, while sucralose didn’t. (56) It is possible, the authors say, that sucralose “may not fully satisfy a desire for natural caloric sweet ingestion.” So, while sugar signals a positive feeling of reward, artificial sweeteners may not be an effective way to manage a craving for sweets.

A 2011 statement from the American Heart Association and American Diabetes Association concluded that when used judiciously, non-nutritive sweeteners (including very low-calorie sweeteners, artificial sweeteners, and non-caloric sweeteners) might help with weight loss or control, and could also have beneficial metabolic effects. The statement also points out, however, that these potential benefits will not be fully realized if there is a compensatory increase in energy intake from other sources – ultimately saying that at this time there are insufficient data to make a conclusive determination about using non-nutritive sweeteners; more research is needed. (57)

To date, the FDA has approved the use of six artificial sweeteners; each one is far sweeter than regular sugar. (55) They include:

Stevia
One natural low-calorie sweetener, stevia, has not yet been evaluated by the FDA.

Stevia is a non-caloric sweetener made from the leaves of a shrub that grows in South and Central America.

Stevia is about 300 times sweeter than sugar.

A number of major soft drink companies have begun launching stevia-sweetened beverages, sometimes combining stevia with erythritol, a sugar alcohol.

Sugar alcohols
Erythritol and xylitol are sugar alcohols, a class of compounds that have been used for decades to sweeten chewing gum, candy, fruit spreads, toothpaste, cough syrup, and other products. Newer, cheaper ways to make sugar alcohols from corn, wood, and other plant materials, along with their sugar-like taste, are fueling their use in a growing array of foods.
